Diner’s Agenda: Your ABCs For The Weekend Are America, Books And Chocolate

Diner’s Agenda isn’t spooked by Friday the 13th.

Friday, April 13
•Want to ask Laura Shapiro herself about the Julia Child controversy? Curious about the favorite dish of noted food writer Molly O’Neill? Ask both authors all your burning questions as they read from their new books at Porter Square Books at 7:00 this evening. [Porter Square Books: Events]

Sunday, April 15
•Show your regional holiday pride by attending the Patriot’s Day salute at The Fireplace, which promises theatricals (actors portraying John & Abigail Adams!) alongside a menu of dishes from Thomas Jefferson’s White House and Sam Adams beer - a pretty good deal for $30! The event gets underway at 3:00 and you can make sure you get a spot by calling (617) 975-1900. [The Fireplace: Events]
•Talking about how much we love chocolate always makes us feel uncomfortably like we’re in a “Cathy” cartoon, but let’s face it: chocolate, be it sweet or savory, is some pretty good stuff. Feast on a three course chocolate based menu at Sel De La Terre beginning at 5:00. The first course alone involves both chocolate and foie gras. We can’t think of a better combination. [Sel De La Terre: Events]
•We must admit that we go back and forth on the Food Network. On the one hand, we adore Alton Brown and we like the idea of cooking shows reaching a larger audience. On the other hand, Rachael Ray drives us crazy and we’re not even sure that what Sandra Lee makes qualifies as food. Irregardless, we’re very excited that Taunton-based ice cream manufacturers MooBella are nominated in the “Icy Innovations” category of the first-ever Food Network Awards. If going out just seems like too, too much trouble, get cozy on your couch and root for the home team at 9:00 when the awards are broadcast. [Food Network Awards]
