Boston Burger Bonanza

Serious Eats has a nice piece up about readers’ favorite local burgers. Having been to New York’s Burger Joint, we can vouch for its deliciousness, but of course, the big attraction is the Boston-area recommendations. Unsurprisingly, Bartley’s Burger Cottage came out on top. We wholeheartedly support that distinction. Bartley’s makes not only the finest burgers in Boston, but one of the best we’ve ever sampled throughout the country. We’re fond of tucking into the Teddy Bruschi (guacamole, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and onion), but even the unadorned burgers (the true test of the burger chef) are beyond tasty: perfectly charred, just the right amount of salty, and completely filling. The milkshakes aren’t half bad either. Moreover, while Bartley’s is something of a tourist destination, it still feels like a definitively Bostonian institution.

The other two area eateries mentioned are not far away from each other. Coincidence? Eh, perhaps. One reader very much misses the now-closed Hungry Herb’s in Medford, which, she reports, carried “the best burger I have ever had.” Another reader mentions Somerville’s R.F. O’ Sullivan’s for “big, pub-style burgers.”
