We're in the South End a lot - can you tell? But there's a reason. Between the quaint cobblestone streets and friendly neighborhood vibe, it's a great place to roam around and get lost. We love discovering new art spaces and galleries, meeting friendly dogs on long leashes, and enjoying the swing sets of the semi-empty playgrounds now that it's a bit too chilly for the kids. It's also one of the best areas of town to eat. No matter what you're in the mood for, you can find something to your liking in the South End, from bakeries to butchers to seafood.

Consider Seiyo. You can get all kinds of cheap fish around Boston, but Seiyo has delicious sushi rolls and sashimi all year. They keep the prices reasonable but maintain and interesting menu. A couple can easily get out for under $50, which feels like a steal so close to the shore. Meals are served with metal chopsticks, a gimmicky move that we happen to love.

They had some trouble getting a liquor license when they opened - not as uncommon a problem as folks would have you believe - but these days, they also serve a fantastic variety of wine and sake, which perfectly compliments the sushi bar's offerings. And if you're in a hurry but want a yummy, affordable dinner, call ten minutes before you plan to swing by. Takeout is fast, fresh, and delicious.
