How To Succeed In Business…Without Really Trying

The dreaded business dinner. After a fourteen hour work day, you really don’t feel like entertaining some snotty clients from out of town. But if you believe a key component to succeeding in business is wooing the clients, at least do so in an environment that serves delectable food and wines. We were recently dragged to a business dinner with our boss at Via Matta, and felt as if the restaurant was the reason for the dinner’s success.

Start off in the bar where a glass of wine can mellow your nerves. The little stone tables and flat screen televisions are a perfect place to sit and decompress. We finally moved on to the dining room, a gorgeous sea of white linen table cloths and candle-lit tables. Our favorite dish? The Ricotta Mezzaluna and mushrooms in a subtle yet scrumptious light butter sauce. Mezzaluna is literally “half-moon” shaped pasta, like ravioli folded in half. Over the course of cocktails at the bar, a bottle of wine at the table, and a delicious meal, it becomes much easier to get your clients to open up and become a little bit more human. So it might take a little bit of “trying,” but they call it work for a reason, after all. Just be careful…As our mother notified us beforehand, “Don’t drink too much wine at dinner. It makes you talk too much.” Aw, how sweet.
