Is Savin Hill Ready for Savin Hill Supply?

Savin Hill.jpgSavin Hill Supply, a gourmet grocer, has opened in Savin Hill, reports DailyCandy. Apparently, owner Kristine Hoag was "frustrated by the lack of one-stop gourmet shopping in her Dorchester hood", which, no duh. Savin Hill isn't especially upscale and we dare say Hoag's store is the first real sign of foodie/yuppie gentrification and it's not clear that most Savin Hill residents are clamoring for 10 year balsamic, liquid smoke, and quince paste. What do you think? Is Savin Hill supply just what the neighborhood's been waiting for or is the neighborhood not ready for it?

  • It's not about gentrification, it's about access & convenience. Everybody eats. I think most people appreciate yummy local stuff, even if it's cheese spread. The idea that only 'gentry' appreciate good quality food is just wrong. It's a general store, if it were about gentrification then western mass, NH & VT are the most gentrified spots in New England. It's not too upscale for Savin Hill or most anyplace else..
