Lydia Shire Teaches Kids About Fine Dining

Lydia Shire recently hosted six students from the Lewis Middle School for dinner at Scampo, reports the Globe. Shire, herself a BPS graduate, met with the Lewis’ All Girl Support Team, a group that seeks to expose students to “the big picture…school success, college, careers, and future goals.” Shire helped the students expand their dining horizons, encouraging them to try risotto (which was a big hit) and whipped white eggplant (not so much). Like fellow Boston-area celebrity chef Ming Tsai, Shire is a devoted activist for issues she cares about (she also teaches cooking classes to inner-city youth). It’s always nice to see chefs who advocate doing good while (or even by!) eating well.
