Six Boston Bars Make ‘Esquire’’s Best List

Drink, People’s Republik, No. 9 Park, Eastern Standard, Doyle’s, and Charlie’s Kitchen all made Esquire’s 2009 list of the Best Bars in America. Unlike its “Best” counterparts, Esquire’s list is relatively unchanging, with most bars staying on the list year after year and only a few being added or deleted (Drink was this year’s Boston addition, while B-Side sadly dropped off the list after its closing this winter). This allows for the recognition of true classics like Doyle’s and Charlie’s, which are decidedly anti-trendy, and thus unlikely to make a list like Food & Wine’s recently released hotspot-filled compendium of the top 100 bars. Did Esquire miss any of Boston’s best watering holes? Leave your picks in the comments.
