Ken Oringer Wants In at the Pink Palace

Ken Oringer is among the restaurateurs interested in opening a restaurant in the Common’s “pink palace”, reports the Herald. City officials hope the pink palace (that drab cement building next to the tennis courts) can be renovated (to the tune of a million dollars) into “a classy restaurant similar to Tavern on the Green in New York City’s Central Park.” One potential roadblock to that goal: Mayor Menino has long opposed allowing liquor licenses on the Common. Aside from Oringer, several city chefs and restaurateurs have expressed interest in operating the pink palace, including Eastern Standard owner Garrett Harker. The bidding process for the pink palace is set to start in January. Meanwhile, an outdoor cafe near Emerson is also set to return in the next few weeks, though there’s been no announcement yet as to the operator.

What kind of restaurant would you like to see on the Common? Who’s your dream operator? Let us know in the comments.
