The Departed

Sifton Memorializes Buzzy’s

“I used to get perfect cheesesteaks at Buzzy’s, then on Charles Street in Boston, right under the jail,” reminisces New York Times restaurant critic Sam Sifton. Sifton, who went to Harvard, fondly remembers the cheesesteak at Buzzy’s, which was torn down to make room for the Liberty Hotel in 2002: “You’d go there and get your sandwich and, if you asked a question about salt or pepper or napkins, the guy behind the counter would scream at you in the thickest Boston accent imaginable: ‘It’sinnabag!’”

If all the talk of the Phillies has got you craving a cheesesteak, you still have six Boston options.
