Cambridge Chef Giuseppe Castellano To Open New York Spot

Gran Gusto chef Giuseppe Castellano will open a second restaurant in New York City this winter. Castellano’s restaurant will occupy the former home of Cipolla Rossa on the Upper East Side and will have no more than 40 seats, says spokesperson Alicia Purcell. The name and exact concept have not yet been decided, but, unlike Gran Gusto, pizza will not be the primary focus of the menu. As Castellano works on the new restaurant, Gran Gusto’s sous chef Jose Sanchez, who has been with the restaurant since the beginning, will take more of a leadership role, with Castellano returning to Cambridge once a week. Castellano hopes to open his New York restaurant in late January or early February.
