A Shake Shack for Boston Common?

The owners of New York's cult-like Shake Shack and the now-defunct Biltmore Room have each submitted proposals for Boston Common's "pink palace," says the Herald Randy Garutti's proposed Shake Shack would be the nation's fifth, following three New York City locations, as well as a forthcoming Miami outpost. The Shake Shack is tremendously popular in New York with lengthy lines at the original Madison Square Park location for the burgers, shakes, and hot dogs, a phenomenon that's hard to imagine in wait-wary Boston. The other proposal comes from Biltmore Room owner Jeffrey Mills, a Boston native who proposes an eatery called The Common House serving New England cheap eats like fried clams, chowder, and lobster rolls (stretching the definition of cheap eats). Which would you rather see?

  • Shake Shack would be fantastic, would instantly become one of the best inexpensive burgers in Boston. Frankly, any outpost of Union Square Hospitality Group would be a wonderful addition to the city, never mind that they're based in Mahhattan. The other guy also made his bones in NYC, but doesn't seem to have been in the restaurant business for a few years. Meanwhile, Danny Meyer and his restaurants are justly legendary.

  • No-brainer- Shake Shack. Who needs more crappy chowder downtown? No one, that's who.
