Cook-Off Mania Meets Six Feet Under

A Pittsfield funeral home recently sponsored a chili cook-off as part of an effort to raise business, reports the Berkshire Eagle. Devanny-Condron Funeral Home owner Terry Probst says the cooking competition is part of a larger effort to show the surrounding community that the funeral home can be a place for fun as well as sorrow — an effort that also includes free limo rides to married couples celebrating over fifty years together, a visit from the Easter Bunny to the mortuary, and a murder mystery show (oh, dear). While we applaud Devanny-Condron’s efforts to creatively boost business, admit it: when you first heard that a funeral home was serving up vats of mystery meat in order to raise business, your blood ran a little cold, right?
