Possible Closings

Our House West ‘Possibly’ Closing

Oh unhappy day — a series of tweets from Twitterer @fullyadam, a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-bartender at Our House West, speculates as to the beloved Allston bar-cum-restaurant’s upcoming closure, and concludes with an absolute: “CONFIRMED: Our House West is closing, owner sold it. May be turned into a mexican rest.” Well, maybe it’s not so set in stone just yet — we called the restaurant for a confirmation on that confirmation, and a very in-the-know individual who preferred not to disclose his name told us that they “don’t know for sure” if the restaurant is on its last legs.

“It’s not exactly definite for sure, but the possibility is there,” he said. “There’s nothing 100 percent, but we’re looking to sell.” But why, for the love of god? The restaurant is incredibly well-liked in the neighborhood, and it’s unlikely that a Mexican restaurant — as @fullyadam seems to think will be its replacement — can fill the void it leaves behind. Blame it on that darn economy, which does nobody any good. “Possibly it’s economy related,” said our source. “Some of it is, definitely. But we’ve been here long enough. Thirty, forty years plus, it’s time to move on.”
