Tasti D is Neither Ice Cream Nor Fro-Yo … Discuss

Pinkberry’s plans for local domination might not happen without a little healthy competition — healthy being the key word here. New York-based faux-yo chain Tasti D-Lite will soon take up residence on Newbury Street, the Herald reports. Part of Tasti’s allure lies in its mystery: The soft-serve frozen desserts don’t have enough butterfat to be considered ice cream (federal standards require 10 percent). And they’re not fro-yo, either, because they don’t have live cultures. However: The treats only have about 80 calories and a mere three grams of fat. They plan to open here in March. Oh, and they have breakfast, too!
