So, Which Foods Say ‘Beantown’ to You?

Really?

First things first: Very few self-respecting Bostonians would ever, ever refer to our fair city as “Beantown.” That said, some tasty dishes have adopted the moniker, so we’ll swallow our pride and simply go with it in the interest of bringing you worthwhile food news. As we told you a few weeks ago, brand-new 5 Napkin has anointed a signature Beantown Burger, a maple-infused patty that fairly sweats interesting condiments. And now there’s a Beantown pizza, too! More ahead.

The Globe reports that Doug Ferriman, president of Crazy Dough’s Pizza, just won second place at the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas. How’d he make it to the finals?

Why, with a “Bean Town” pizza, of course! His creation (now served at all Crazy Dough locations) is blanketed with Maplebrook smoked mozzarella, root vegetable puree, onions, truffled shiitakes, a port wine reduction … and pot roast.

Meanwhile, the Beantown Burger boasts maple syrup-infused beef, baked beans, smoked gouda, tomato, and relish. Which makes us curious: Do these items (pot roast? root veggies? smoked gouda?) scream “Beantown!” to you? What other delicacies do you think of when contemplating Boston … ahem, Beantown … cuisine?
