Allstonians Prefer Kmart to Sushi?

According to a piece in the Harvard Crimson, members of the Allston Civic Association are miffed that Maki Maki, a sushi buffet sushi buffet, will soon arrive at the Brighton Mills shopping plaza on Western Avenue. They think shops like Kmart would be more useful to residents and that a sushi buffet would cater to outsiders. Allstonian Tom Puglia, who is happy about not having to cross the Charles for raw fish, was tempered in his excitement, worrying that Western Avenue could become a “restaurant hot spot.” Other locals frown upon the odor of Dumpsters and food deliveries. The ACA’s a tough crowd: They rejected a business proposal by harmless-enough Stone Hearth Pizza because the place wanted to serve beer and wine. The puritanical Allstonians, whose neighborhood houses nary a bar, are happy that Maki Maki won’t serve booze. And, really, their concerns don’t matter anyway: The sushi buffet will open this summer, as the Association meeting was a mere formality. [Crimson]
