Take This Restaurant and Love It

Yes, owning a restaurant can cause plenty of pain and heartache. But as more emerges about down-on-its-luck Scup’s, the more we hope someone will just swoop in and make everything better. The story is downright Dickensian. The current owners are undergoing a medical crisis. Before opening, says the Globe, the duo lived on a tugboat. They came ashore to take over the humble little shipyard restaurant from a guy who supplied food to jails, they rescued a small dog who serves as the Scup’s mascot, and they dole out simple food to “workers who have been outside since dawn.” The sale comes with “everything in the shop, our mailing list, our recipes, our goodwill. … We spent all winter buffing, cleaning, improving. It has a wine and beer license. It’s a turn-key,” pleads owner David Rockwood. So basically this could be pretty much the opposite of every restaurant opening, ever. Who’s going to take over?
