Yesterday Devra First at the Globe came out with an interesting piece saying that Boston’s best dining is actually in Cambridge. We’ve spent a lot of time here at Grub Street covering Kendall Square’s burgeoning restaurant scene, for one, and we liked First’s take. But there is some hope for Boston, we think.
Can Cambridge’s inventive chefs make the leap to Boston, and do they want to? We’re hoping so. Today news breaks that Will Gilson, one of Cambridge’s biggest names, will leave Garden at the Cellar to focus on his pop-up restaurants. As First notes, Somerville’s Jason Santos just fled Davis Square’s Gargoyles to open his own Boston restaurant, Blue Inc. And Jody Adams will branch out from Harvard Square’s Rialto to open Trade in the fall.
Which Cambridge restaurant or chef would you like to see branch into the big bad city? Or which Somerville chef, for that matter? And in the meantime, who’s going to snag us our reservation at Bondir?
