Here’s Another Reason to Dine in Lowell

Lowell is trying to launch a green-restaurants program, which reminds us that we need to spend more time exploring the terrific restaurants there, especially the fantastic Cambodian spots. We’ve chronicled Lowell’s culinary rise here before, and this latest development sounds exciting. More ahead.

The Sentinel & Enterprise reports that Lowell city officials are working with restaurateurs to develop an official “green restaurant” certificate program. (One of Boston’s top green restaurants, Life Alive, has an outpost in Lowell, and they’ve been instrumental in the initiative. ) They aim to launch a pilot program in the fall with a strong network of other city restaurants.

Last year, we gave Lowell a year until it blew up; it might not be the next Kendall Square, but we think Lowell — with its vibrant ethnic scene, chefs’ lofts, and this burgeoning green movement — is heading in the right direction.
