Jasper White’s Lobster Roll Unpicked By Martha Stewart, But He’s Still A Happy Guy

Poor Jasper White! The guy might make darn fine clams, but apparently his lobster roll isn’t up to Martha Stewart’s standards. Fork Lift reports the sad news that his roll failed to win at last night’s 2011 Lobster Roll Rumble, Tasting Table’s benefit for Share Our Strength in New York City. She and Kyle MacLachlan were among the judges who awarded the top-roll honors to home (surf and) turf restaurants Mary’s Fish Camp and Luke’s Lobster. We caught up with White, recovering from his whirlwind trip.

The good news is, he’s totally OK with the loss. White still takes pride in what he happily dubs his “lobster roll on steroids.” Despite less than optimal contest conditions (rainy weather which necessitated an indoor move, coupled with failed air-conditioning), White says he gave it his all: homemade, saffron-scented, buttered and griddled rolls,”freshly chucked” lobster meat bound by his “special” mayonnaise, and even fresh pickled beets as a garnish. “I did see some rolls that were more sliders or BLTs,” he confessed to Grub Street. “But that’s OK, it was all for a good cause.” And anyway, “The Red Sox just beat the Yankees!” Take that, Martha.
