La Brasa Will Be “Meat-Focused, South American,” but Not Helmed by Frank McClelland

Frank McClelland: not Somerville-bound.
Frank McClelland: not Somerville-bound.

Over the weekend, we heard from Frank McClelland’s team that the star L’Espalier chef is not, in fact, going to open a La Brasa restaurant in East Somerville after all. However: The rumors aren’t too far off. Also, meat is involved.

Instead, we hear that longtime member of the Sel de la Terre & L’Espalier culinary team Daniel Bojorquez (he’s currently chef de cuisine at Natick’s SDLT) will open Las Brasa at 118 Broadway. This isn’t a McClelland project, although Grub Street is told via a rep that the chef will “continue to mentor” Bojorquez through the transition and help him navigate the challenges of opening a restaurant for the first time. We’re also told that the restaurant will be “meat-focused,” with a South American influence.

’Tis the season for fresh endeavors from SDLT alums: Louis DiBiccari just opened Storyville, and Benjamin Knack is now at the Bedford Village Inn.

We wish Bojorquez lots of luck!
