But they also managed to stumble upon a few less-heralded spots: River Gods (“D.J.’s spin an esoteric mix of music, from ’60s French pop to Bollywood funk, surrounded by gilded angels and stuffed nun dolls in a scene that’s not unlike a house party at a Bizarro World rectory”), Hungry Mother (“unpretentious and sincere”) and Alive and Kicking (a “no-frills urban fish shack”).
