Oh La La: Le Dîner en Blanc, a Mass Chic Picnic, Comes to Town

Time for a mosh pit!
Time for a mosh pit!

Grub Street receives word that chic Parisian pop-up Le Dîner en Blanc, an all-white-attire outdoor dinner picnic, will grace Boston with its presence on August 16 at a mystery location. Last year’s event in New York was a slight fiasco, with not everyone (a whopping 31,000 people!) who wanted tickets actually being able to wine and dine with true Parisian flair. Quel domage!

An e-mail received by Grub from Pop-Up Republic states that “the best one can do is get on the waiting list by going to the event’s website. Definitely a first-come, first-served situation.”

Already sounds fraught! The location remains hush-hush, but rest assured that the party will be fancy: “At the last minute, the location is given to thousands of friends and acquaintances who have been patiently waiting to learn the “Dîner en Blanc’s” secret place. Thousand of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass chic picnic in a public space.”

This all sounds unbearably civilized … or like the type of thing that could devolve into a mass riot with lobes of foie gras flying everywhere. If you’re tempted, curious, or just want an excuse to wear a lot of white with your closest acquaintances, check out their website, dust off your picnic basket, and hope for the best.
