Goodbye, Charley's on Newbury Street

Grub Street receives word through a rep that Charley's on Newbury Street will close closed last night after its owner, Tavistock Group, was unable to renegotiate a lease. Tavistock has been all over town lately: As we noted last year, they acquired the woe-addled Back Bay Restaurant Group and all that came with it: Abe & Louie’s, Atlantic Fish Co., Joe’s American Bar & Grill, Charley’s, and Coach Grill.

In a sad note, we're told that founder “Charlie” Charles Sarkis "personally selected" Tavistock Restaurants to continue his "47-year restaurant legacy." For now, the Charley's in Newton will stay open.
