Today the Globe came out with a list of Boston's tastiest, most under-the-radar restaurants. The pick that really stands out is Tu Y Yo, on the edge of Davis Square. This place opened long before Boston's Mexican boomlet, and it's absolutely delicious (and far cheaper than some of the glitzier newly opened spots). Yet why no love?
Every time we visit, it's maaaaybe half-full (sometimes it's a bit busier on a weekend night). We totally agree with the Globe's Devra First: "The deeply flavored black beans and micheladas (spicy beer cocktails) are some of the best around. And I don’t know of too many other local places where one can sample grasshopper tacos." We love the rice, too, and the fact that they offer a never-crowded, ever so spicy weekend brunch. Why wait in line down the street at Sound Bites when you can de-hangover your taste buds with an electrifying order of huevos divorciados?
Is it Tu Y Yo's slightly out-of-the-way Powderhouse Circle location? Is it the fact that they don't have a publicist? Are people afraid of grasshopper tacos? We're stumped. If you love Tu Y Yo and think it needs more affection, let us know in the comments.
