Did Hurricane Sandy have something to do with this? An orange-and-black Halloween lobster surfaced off the coast of Beverly today, just miles way from Halloween Central, Salem.
The festive crustacean, called a split due to its perfectly "split" colors, occurs in one in every 50 million lobsters. The New England Aquarium says the ladylobster weighs in at a healthy one pound.
It's not the first time a rarely hued lobster has washed up on our shores: Earlier this summer, the Summer Shack's Jasper White unearthed a calico lobster while cleaning out his lobster tank. [AP via Herald]
