Burgers made from 50% bacon and 50% beef probably won’t be the first thing you’re craving the day after Thanksgiving, unless you’re anything like us. Either way, Slater’s 50/50 will open its first L.A. location on November 23 to serve overly-indulgent burgers and Cali craft brew in a bar space of big screens with a wide pig mural. Though this is a San Diego import with three existing locations, Slater’s was founded by Pasadena native Scott Slater, making it a homecoming, of sorts, as it opens doors on Olde Town Pasadena’s Raymond Avenue at 2:00 P.M. this Friday.

The name “Heart Attack Grill” was already taken by this Vegas sociopath, but don’t get it twisted, Slater’s sugarcoats cholesterol, lays it into lipids, then crams bacon in every conceivable crevice. Cavity creeps and cardiologists, get your motors running.

Dishes will include the infamous 50/50 Burger (half-bacon, half-bovine) and its variations, a garlic-rich “Vampire Dip,” buffalo chicken mac and cheese with a Cheez-It crust, fried chicken and pancakes, burgers stuffed with Fritos, beer cheese fries, bacon brownies, and even a salad corrupted by a bacon cheeseburger. Cocktails involve the expected bacon Bloody Marys and bacon Old Fashioneds, while little piglets can enjoy maple bacon milkshakes and swine-shunning sweet-teeth will have a version with Pop Rocks. Check out the menus here, but first, brace yourself.

Slater’s 50/50, open 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. daily** at 61 North Raymond Ave. Pasadena; 626-765-9700.
