Guy Who Tried to Burn Down Alewife Whole Foods Gets 15 Years in Prison

From the salad bar to behind bars.

Justice is a dish best served cold, far from diverse and alluring salad bars. Jose Baez will get 15 years in prison for, among other things, setting fire to the Whole Foods Market on Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge back in 2008.

He caused more than $53,000 in damage, which is approximately how much we spend per year there on sushi. Baez had worked at the store and quit, and he'd hoped to get revenge on his former employer.

After this escapade, he went on to set fire to several other area businesses, including a hair salon and an autobody shop. He was also found guilty of cocaine possession, because this kind of thing takes more energy than a simple Kombacha drink can provide.
