Boston Chops Will Be the First Big Opening of 2013

Grub Street hears that Deuxave's wunderkind Chris Coombs, previously cagey about the exact opening date of his hotly anticipated urban steak bistro Boston Chops, plans to open the South End restaurant in mid-January. It will take over the space formerly occupied by Banq and Ginger Park. What is an urban steak bistro, you ask?

We're told that you'll be able to get really delicious things like, say, steak frites, at a much lower price point than at swanky Deuxave. Your preferred cut (and complementary sauce) will arrive with a small salad and unlimited frites brought out in large copper bowl, served tableside. Oh, and fish-labeling scandals shouldn't matter here: We're told that any fish on the menu will be labeled "meat of the sea," so Jessica Simpson will feel right at home here too. As Coombs told us before: "The only thing we have in common with a typical steakhouse is that we'll serve cow."

We also hear that the space is undergoing a complete renovation from its previous Banq and Ginger Park incarnations. Stay tuned for more meaty updates in the coming weeks from Coombs (and business partner Brian Piccini).
