New Year’s Eve will be the last night of business for the Rrazz Room, the music venue off the lobby at the Hotel Nikko focusing on cabaret, jazz, and singlehandedly reviving the career of Melissa Manchester. The hotel is declining to renew its contract with the venue, the closure comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed in Superior Court last month that alleges the hotel’s general manager, Anna Marie Presutti, pressured the Rrazz Room operators to book fewer R&B; acts, due to the “certain ‘demographic’” those acts were attracting. Presutti vehemently denies the allegations and says, “This is simply the case of a contract coming to an end, and it’s an attempt for Rrazz to use slander as a bullying tactic to get their way.” As the Examiner reports, the Rrazz Room’s operators Robert Kotonly and Rory Paull are looking to move their operations to 1000 Van Ness, the mezzanine level space in AMC Theater building that was previously known as The Showroom and, ever so briefly, Holly’s Comedy Club.
