Ramen Shop

Ramen Shop (5812 College Avenue), the new Oakland venture from Chez Panisse alums Rayneil De Guzman and Sam White, along with partner Jerry Jaksich, opens tonight at long last. The much anticipated restaurant had a soft opening of sorts on New Year’s Eve, but tonight is the first full service, and we now have some photos of the interior for you — remodeled since its days as Tachibana.

The menu, in addition to ramen, includes small plates like ukoy fritters (Filipino shrimp fritters), as well as three types of ramen broth — shoyu, miso, and the pork-bone-based tonkotsu. Then there are optional toppings like Dungeness crab, wild mushrooms, and wok-sautéed nettles.

And, praise be, in contrast to a number of existing ramen destinations around the Bay, there’s a full bar featuring Japanese whiskey at its core.

Ramen Shop - 5812 College Avenue, Oakland - 510-788-6370 - Regular hours still TBA
