While some say the Chinese are no longer in Chinatown, the Chinatown Business Improvement District is hosting the 14th Annual Chinese New Year Festival Saturday & Sunday, February 16 & 17, 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Calbi BBQ, Crepe N Around, Frysmith, Gourmet Genie, Greasy Weiner, Jogasaki Burrito, Sweet E’s Bake Shop, Trailer Park Truck, Tropical Shave Ice, and Yalla Truck are all expected on both days. A craft beer garden featuring three L.A. breweries will be curated by Eagle Rock Brewery. The event details page is here and in case anyone still doesn’t know: this is the year of the snake.

The City of Alhambra will hold the 22nd annual Lunar New Year street festival 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Valley Blvd., from Garfield Ave, to Almansor Ave. The Alhambra festival typically has the most food booths out of all the Western San Gabriel regional lunar celebrations, making it the most interesting and accessible festival to the West side. Based on the city of Monterey Park’s lunar festival recently held on the weekend of February 9th and 10th, expect to see tons of cumin lamb skewers, stinky tofu, dumplings, noodles, seaweed snacks and boba drinks. Pro tips: go early or go late, as parking and traffic will be a complete nightmare; bring cash and wear comfortable shoes. Vader sunvisors are encouraged and more details can be found on the lunar festival website.
