RIP, Boston Phoenix

Doug Most at the Globe reports that the Boston Phoenix is shutting down, not long after they launched a glossy reformat that incorporated the political and arts coverage from the Phoenix newspaper with the nightlife/fashion/etc. component from Stuff magazine. Sources tell Grub that it was a surprise and the current on-street issue will be their last. One fewer venue for food coverage is never a good thing, and stuff was just getting interesting: Only yesterday we called out the Phoenix for publishing a very ballsy and well-articulated assessment of the Seaport District, written by Jolyon Helterman, who'd never written for the Phoenix before. We were looking forward to reading more articles like his in the paper. Now we won't have the chance. Farewell, Boston Phoenix. [Globe, Earlier]
